Operations

EMS

Providing Emergency Medical Service is the squad’s primary activity. All of our career and volunteer staff members are highly-trained Emergency Medical Technicians and are prepared to deliver care in a wide variety of life-threatening situations, including the following:

  • Childbirth
  • Allergic reactions
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Medical emergencies
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Cardiac arrest

Our EMTs engage in continuing education classes and monthly training sessions to ensure the community is treated with the highest quality care possible.

Rescue

The Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad specializes in a wide array of technical rescue services. Because of the complexity and risk associated with these types of operations, rescue members undergo extensive certification programs and frequent drills to maximize proficiency and to ensure patient and crew safety. Working side-by-side with our EMTs, rescue technicians utilize specialized equipment to mitigate hazards, rescue patients in distress, and provide life-saving medical care in medical crises such as:

  • Automobile extrication
  • Confined space
  • Water rescues
  • Mass casualty incidents
  • Search and rescue evolutions
  • Operational scene lighting

Special Operations

Special Operations plan for incidents where the potential for many patient emergencies exists. In these situations, extensive preplanning takes place to ensure appropriate EMS coverage and patient accessibility. At crowded events, for example, the squad may erect portable first aid and cooling stations and disperse EMTs on foot and bicycles to ensure patients in need can be reached quickly and treated effectively. Among the types of events that require Special Operations are:

  • Sporting events
  • Concerts
  • Community parades
  • Social events
  • Fireworks displays
  • Princeton University reunions

Rescue Vehicles

Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad operates a state-of-the-art fleet of 9 emergency vehicles. Each vehicle has been custom designed by the Squad to provide maximum functionality based upon our operational needs. Apparatus are on a replacement schedule appropriate to each vehicle, and we follow and in-depth preventative maintenance program to ensure reliability during emergencies.

314266_10151013627701595_1943402276_nPFARS has four ambulances to meet the high volume of requests (~8 per day, with many taking place at the same time or within minutes of each other). The ambulances carry the equipment and personnel needed to respond to any emergency.

dsc_0120-x2A giant toolbox on wheels, the truck carries the wide variety of equipment necessary to perform technical rescue services, including hydraulic rescue tools, light towers, water rescue equipment and confined space rescue gear and tools.  Any equipment not able to fit in the rescue truck is stored on our TRU trailer.

The Special Services (SS) unit responds to fires, hazardous material calls, large scale emergency incidents and community events. The SS carries a large cache of supplies for mass casualty incidents as well as rehabilitation services, including medical monitoring, rehydration and environmental reconditioning.

mcb_0198Utility 168 is a very flexible vehicle with a number of features: winch, mobile command post, four wheel drive, off-road patient transport capability and hitch for towing the boat trailer.

Car 168 is a first response vehicle used to get an initial responder to the scene of an emergency or to bring additional members to an emergency. It is also equipped with four wheel drive for snow, off road use and as a backup vehicle to tow the boat trailer.

This eight person, shallow draft, flat bottomed boat powered by a 65 hp jet drive motor gives us the flexibility to respond to emergencies on Carnegie Lake or the D&R canal as well as other bodies of water in the region. The boat is towed on a trailer specially designed for rapid deployment in shallow water.

11032125_10152642655706595_5127638101877678956_nThe TRU is our support unit for structural collapse and trench rescue calls.  It carries lumber for building shores and trench panels as well as saws, lighting and various hand tools.  The trailer is an adjunct to the rescue trucks capacity for a specialized task or operation.
